Abstract for Justin Khoo

No fact of the middle

Middle facts are facts about what would have happened if A happened, when A didn’t in fact happen, that are not entailed by any (conjunction of) non-conditional facts. A powerful argument for middle facts comes from the observation that we often regard such counterfactuals as possible or even very likely true. However, I argue there are no middle facts. I then show how this thesis is compatible with some middle-fact-stating counterfactuals being possibly, or even likely, true.
